Masquerade Ball - Banquet

The end of the school year is even busier than Christmas time, I think....  Awards ceremonies and banquets, and end of year performances...It's something fun every day!

This end of year awards banquet was for the High School Band where my daughter attends school.  She is in both the band and the dance team/drill team.  So, of course, I get recruited to help decorate for both.  It takes an army of volunteers to make these things happen.  Luckily lots of parents and volunteers worked hard to make it happen.

Here is the Candy Buffet....It was a surprise for later in the evening!  We hid it behind pipe and drape curtains 'till after dinner.  Then the dance floor opened up, and the candy buffet was revealed.

A masquerade theme is always fun, of course!  We had several craft nights to embellish plain masks to be the centerpieces.  Some volunteers took masks home to embellish and even recruited extra help from crafty people!

The elastic ties were cut off of each mask that we used for the centerpieces.  One lovely volunteer cut them all off and replaced them with curling ribbon.  There were 36 tables, so this took quite a lot of time!!
We punched holes in the masks with an ordinary hole-puncher so that we could put the masks onto sticks for the centerpieces.  All of the sticks had to be spray painted and cut to size.
And a Grand Entrance is always needed....

And a few big decorations are needed for a big room...We purchased all of  the large card board cut-outs from Oriental Trading.

We used concrete tubes from Lowe's to make the columns on the stage.  We just wrapped them in wrapping paper.  Then we used the rest of the wrapping paper to repeat the pattern across the pipe and drape.
To make the main mask on the candy buffet, I used music paper, feathers, and -- believe it or not -- I cut pieces out of a silk beaded evening gown to decorate the top of the mask.

Of course, a photo area is always a must.
All in all, it was a fun evening.  The kids had a good time, and we all look forward to next year!
